Cross Cottage was a very old cottage and ‘Flukes’, a shop, is now there. Cross cottage was 3 or 400 hundred years ago when it was knocked down in 1899 to build more houses.

Cross cottage roof was made of thatched straw . The windows were small to keep the heat in and the glass for windows was very expensive.

Cross cottage was surrounded by lots of fields. They have bushes to make the front of their house look very nice.

People had fields to make corn for their family. They would work on the land.

These people would get their water from a well and cook over the fire place.

I think that inside the house was dark, smoky and smelly because we saw won like it in St Fagans but that one was painted red. adam.jpg (35742 bytes)

Cross Cottage was a old cottage and now flukes is there. The roof was thatched. They had small windows and two fire places so they had two chimneys. The windows were small because they could keep the heat in .The walls were made from stone .We saw a cottage like it in St Fagans which was very smoky and dark .I saw a really cool chair because it could turn into a table. The people who lived in the house had to work very very hard or they would starve.

Cross cottage was a very old cottage. In 1880 it was still surrounded by fields but in 1899 it was knocked down. It was where flukes is. It was knocked down because they wanted to make new houses.

We looked at a photo of Cross Cottage and we found out these things. The windows were small because glass was expensive and heat couldn’t get out. The roof was made of straw because they can easily get it from the fields. They had bushes round their garden to show that it was their garden and to make it look pretty .The walls were made of stone and then gone over with cement to make it smooth and then painted. They had two chimneys at either side of the house which probably meant because it was their only heating it would have been important to have a fire in every room.

inside

Inside the house it probably smelt of smoke and straw. It would have been quite dark with only a few candles and a fire. They probably got their water from a well or a spring nearby .They would have used a fire to cook . They probably had jobs like being a farmer . They would have got crops from the field. They would have had cows to get milk and other animals you would find on a farm.

The cross cottage was a very old cottage . It was built ages ago now flukes has been built there .It was knocked down in 1899 so they could build houses there. It was surrounded by some of the fields. In the photograph I could see a lot of trees, square windows small too . I could see a roof made out of straw and I could see a window covered up. The windows were quite expensive in those days . Now they are cheep because now they are made in factories. In the other days they used hands to make glass that is probably why they were expensive. They are a kind of thin glass so no coldness will come to them. They had so many fields so they could grow their vegetables and to make there house look prettier. They use to have straw for their roof because they lived next to fields. They had no tiles to make their roof so they used straw. The walls are clean and smooth. They are made out of stone and they put a layer of cement on top.

INSIDE THE HOUSE

The house is dark smells of smoke. The house looks as if it is quite small. These people must have got their water from a well or spring near by. They cooked their food . They had all metal pots and spoons to cook it near the fireplace.

Inside the house it would have been very cold and very dark . And most people wouldn’t have much food or nice clothes and it was quite smokey and small. Most people would put out the fire over night so it won’t waste any fuel. People would have got their water from a near by well or spring.

The windows was not double glazed which means two pieces of glass with a gap between them which means its warmer. The walls were made of stone. It had two chimneys because they would have real fires. Inside the cottage it would have been very dark and it smelt of smoke. It is very small. They had flowers and vegetable to make their garden party. The things where made of wood.
