Night Raid
18th May 1943

This was one of the largest raids on Cardiff but it was also one of the shortest, only lasting between 2:36 and 3:59 a.m. German bombers pounded the City and the Docks. 60 high explosive bombs were dropped. Parachute mines and incendiary bombs were also used. Bombs were dropped along the Whitchurch, Rhiwbina, Heath, Central Station, Bute St Railway line. 4,300 houses and 140 shops were damaged. This was the last raid on Cardiff. Roath was not badly damaged and the only buildings destroyed were three houses in Pen-y-lan Rd.

These are houses on Pen-y-lan Rd. They were bombed in the 18th May raid on Cardiff. The roofs are not as steep as the Victorian houses around them, some of the window frames are metal and more concrete has been used.
