On this night a heavy raid on Cardiff docks took place. Lots of docks were destroyed. Several people were killed and 2 firemen working at the docks were injured. Although this raid was mainly concentrated on the docks, St. Martin's Church was attacked and parts of Violet Street were destroyed by incendiary and high explosive bombs. These bombs were probably aimed at the nearby railway line, but luckily missed.

Two days later, on February 28th, the Luftwaffe (the German Air Force) managed to take a set of daytime photographs of bomb damage in Cardiff.

NANCY'S MEMORY

"I remember going to the Gaiety Cinema and, because I enjoyed the film so much, I stayed there to see it round again. When we came out, it was dark and there was an air raid, so we went into the big shelter next to the Cinema. As the shelter seemed a bit crowded, I thought I'd run home quickly in case I got into trouble with my father. When I was half way down Glenroy Street, there was a lot of noise; aeroplanes and shrapnel coming down, bits of metal falling. I got quite scared, so I knocked on someone’s door and they let me in. I stayed for a while, and when I went out, I ran towards Claude Place where my house was, and I found my dad looking for me. 'Where have you been?' he said. 'You should have come home hours ago!' I was frightened, I can tell you!"

Interviewer's comment: How would you have felt if you were Nancy? I would have been very scared! If I was Nancy, I would have been very keen to get home!
