Interview With Dolly From Cyfarthfa Street, Roath "There were a few raids in Cardiff during the war but I do not remember all of them. One of the worst was in January 1941, just after New Year when a lot of bombs hit the city. They were closer to the city centre, but Oakfield Street and Crofts Street were badly hit and the Crofts pub was destroyed and had to be rebuilt. A lot of the windows in Cyfartha Street were shattered and the next morning we had to shovel up all the glass and board up the windows. That's why, if you dig deep in the gardens at the back of the houses, you often find lots of small pieces of glass - we left them in the back and covered them with earth."
