Night Raid

3 March, 1941


On the night of 3.3.41. there was a very heavy raid on Cardiff. The types of bombs used were: high explosive bombs, incendiary bombs and parachute mines. The following places were bombed badly: Howard Gardens School, Eglwys Dewi Sant ( St David's Cathedral) in Charles Street, the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel at the corner of Newport Road and City Road, Ninian Park, parts of Cardiff City centre, the Docks and not forgetting . . . MARLBOROUGH JUNIOR SCHOOL!!

Headlines on 4.3.41.

The front page article which appeared under these headlines quoted public officials who described the night's bombing as, "One of the greatest fire raids of the War."

The article mentioned that churches and several schools had been bombed, but did not name any of them or include any pictures.
