The Blitz started in September, 1940. The Blitz comes from the word 'Blitzkrieg' which means 'lightning war.' During the Blitz, the British capital endured 57 consecutive nights of German bombing. Before the Blitz Hitler tried to destroy the Royal Air Force,and he also tried to knock out all of Britain's airfields. In the Blitz outside London the first place to be heavily bombed was Coventry. On the night of 14 November, more than 400 German bombers flew over the city.The Blitz in Britain finally ended in May 1941.
