THE END OF THE WAR

The end of the war was a time of great celebration in Britain. V.E Day stands for Victory in Europe. People lit bonfires in the street and partied on the day war finished... or so they thought. Japan had got involved in the war and would not give in. America flew over to Japan and dropped two atomic bombs. They flattened two major cities and that was the end of the war. flag.jpg (378980 bytes)

There is now a memorial stone dedicated to the people who died in Cardiff during World War Two.

MARGARET'S MEMORY

"At the end of the War, there were street parties and bonfires on the Rec. I can remember being in school and our teacher asked us to write an essay about what we had done to celebrate V.E. night. Some children actually wrote that they’d lit a big bonfire and the fire engines had had to come to put it out. The teacher told the children off. I thought this was unfair because, after all, they were telling the truth."
