The Gaiety
was opened in 1912.
It was called The Electric Theatre.

To get into the theatre, it cost six
pence.
On Saturdays, children could get into the cinema for free
if they took a jam jar.
You got to see the movie over and over again.
It wasn't just ONE film it was
MORE than one.
When
Nancy was watching a movie during the war,
there was
an air- raid and she couldn't get home.
People went to the Gaiety to
watch the news
because they wanted to look at the picture, not just
listen on the radio.
They had not invented tv.
