They were imprisoned in the gaol in Cardiff Castle and for a while shared a dismal cell. They were allowed out of the cell for recreation however and enjoyed playing tennis matches together. It was while they were playing tennis one evening that the under-sheriff came to tell the men that they were to be executed the next day and to bring them back to prison. “What haste is there?” exclaimed Philip Evans. “Let me first play out my game!” |
